Setting up a mobile hotspot on your smartphone and connecting your Laptop to the network is a hassle that most of us have suffered. Chrome OS, however, had introduced an easy way-out for the issue long back and it is bringing the same into more devices. This feature, named Instant Tethering, allows users to create Wi-Fi hotspot in a smartphone and connect the Chromebook to the network — automatically.
As said earlier, Chrome OS had introduced the feature long back, but had limited the availability to just a few devices. Only a few Android devices and Chromebooks were able to make use of the service — Google was, in a way, keeping the feature exclusive. Starting from now, devices from third-party manufacturers like Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Samsung would be able to use the feature.
On the smartphone side, a number of devices from Motorola, OnePlus, LG, HTC, Huawei and Samsung will enable Instant Tethering. As of now, more than 30 smartphones and 15 Chromebooks support this feature, making things easier for thousands of users. The feature has been designed to automate the whole ordeal of hotspot creation in Android.
This is how it works: when your Chromebook is not connected to the Internet, it will automatically create a connection to the Wi-Fi network. You don’t have to press any buttons or re-connect in order to do that. On the other hand, you will have to follow a simple set-up process, where you give permissions to carry out the task every time. Instant Tethering was expected to be launched pretty soon, considering that Google Chrome OS had brought the same under Flags section a while back. Device owners were able to enable the same optionally. However, now that the feature is an integral part of the system, it would be easier to use.
